After his first trip to the western US over twenty years ago, Mike Stem knew it was where he wanted to be. He spent 14 or 15 years skiing ice after school under the lights in Pennsylvania before moving to Colorado. There, his passion for the mountains exploded, and he became involved in the ski industry as an amateur athlete for a few years while also getting his bachelor’s degree at CU in Boulder.
After graduation, he stayed in Colorado for several more years before moving back east to work for his family operating a chain of 15 car washes in NJ for six years. However, the draw of the mountains was too strong, and he knew he had more exploring to do, so Montana became the obvious choice.
